Bible Lessons 2015 - 2016
The lessons for this year focuses on “Crusaders With Courage, Confidence, And The Power Of Love.” Too often we allow the adversary to frighten us out of the blessings that God has preordained for us. As crusaders from Christ we should be cautious but we should never live in fear of tomorrow. Fear has a way of trying to intimidating us so that we will not even show up for the battle. When we come to realize that the battle is not ours but the Lord’s, then we will have the courage to show up and also fight until the victory is won.
Our Crusader’s Champion Jesus Christ always faced whatever was before him with “Courage, Confidence, And The Power Of Love.” Even when he faced the future of being crucified on the Cross, the bible says “He set his face like a flint” toward the city of Jerusalem. In Jesus’s day a flint was a stone that was used to start a fire. The flint rock had to be struck so that hot sparks could come off and start the fire. Jesus was determined to complete the task that was given to him by his heavenly Father. He would not let anything stop him or stand in his way.
What was it that allowed Jesus to face the future with such courage and confidence? The bible states it quite clearly, it was “ the power of Love”. This power is also available to us. It can only be achieved by the power of God’s Spirit dwelling in us who believe. When we come to realize God’s love for us personally, seek to love him with all our heart, and strive to love others as we love ourselves, then we have some real spiritual power!
It is our hope that these lessons will help us to realize the spiritual Power that we have dwelling within us. With the help of Almighty God, we will live the rest of our lives as “Crusaders With Courage, Confidence, And The Power Of Love.” Johnny R. Davis
Topic: “ Love And Obey “ It should be clear from reading this scripture that it is God’s desire for children to love and obey their parents. God has given you a promise that when you love and obey your parents you will receive a blessing.
When you obey it is a demonstration of love. When you disobey it shows that you do not care. The opposite of love is not hate but the opposite of love is when you do not care. You should always ask God to show you how to love by the power of the holy spirit. When you yield your will over to the Holy Spirit then we will be able to love and obey better. The more you love and obey the more you will be able to love and obey. When you love and obey it shows the power of God in a number of ways. First of all it shows the power of God In your heart. It will also have a positive affect on all those around you. This is truly powerful. As a crusader for Christ, you should always have confidence and obey those who are in authority over you. This is true love.
Q - Do you consider yourself as a loving and obedient person ?
Q - What do you think will happen if you ask God to help you to love and obey?
Topic: “ The Holy Spirit As Our Helper And Comforter “ A critical yet wonderful ministry of the Holy Spirit is as a Comforter and Helper. Jesus told His disciples that He would send the Holy Spirit to them once Jesus Himself had left them. The Holy Spirit would then be comforting and helping them the disciples. Just as Christ told His disciples when He was on the earth that He was a messenger and servant, even so, the Holy Spirit also serves and ministers to us in such a way as to give us wisdom, lead us, convict us when necessary, and bring comfort to us in the midst of difficulty when we call out to Him. In John 16:13, Jesus told His disciples that the Holy Spirit would also guide us into all truth. Life can be difficult, whether we live in a free nation, or within a nation where our brothers and sisters in Christ are oppressed for their faith in Jesus. Whenever we face a difficult circumstance or need direction, we can call out to the Lord and know that His Holy Spirit is there, working in our lives, just as He promised. While we may not always “feel” the comfort the Holy Spirit brings, we can know that He is bringing it none the less, and is working in us. As 2 Corinthians 4:16 & 17 tells us “Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison…” Q – 1 Have you faced moments or long durations of sorrow or need?
Q – 2 Do you ask the Lord to bring you comfort in the midst of these times?
Topic: “ The Spirit Gives Us Peace “ Do you ever think about what life was like, or would have been like, before you put your faith in Christ Jesus? Isn’t it wonderful that even before we were born, Christ paid the price for our sins that we could not pay, because we were helpless to do so? Christ died for us, paying the price for all our sins so that we might be set free, and have a relationship with Him, both now and in eternity. We have now been justified by faith when we put our trust in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a result, God’s love is poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit that He has given us, just as He promised. We can know that the Holy Spirit will work through the tribulations we experience in our lives to bring about perseverance in us, and then proven character, and each day develop in us a greater faith as we put our hope more deeply in Christ Jesus. We can rest and have such a peace in Christ Jesus as His Holy Spirit works in us through every circumstance in life; He will use all things to make us more like Jesus, and draw us nearer to Him each day if we allow Him to. (Romans 8:28&29) Q – 1 Have you ever made bad decisions that resulted in things that caused you sorrow and pain?
Q – 2 Isn’t it wonderful to know that Christ died even for those bad decisions we have made, and that His Holy Spirit will work in us to make us more like Jesus?
Topic: “Being A Real Witness “ Have you ever talked with a friend about who Jesus is to you? Not what you have read or been taught, but what you have seen and heard yourself. That is what a witness does. He tells his own story, and how Jesus has changed his life as the Holy Spirit has enabled him.
But, sadly, those who tell their story without Jesus in it are usually satisfied with their own ways and have no true life in them. You will either develop character or become one.
Q1 - Have you ever told a friend who Jesus is to you?
Q2 - Are you living by your own rules or His?
Topic: “ Power To Be A Witness “ What keeps us silent when the name of Jesus is mocked or made fun of? Most often the reason is fear. Fear of what our friends might think, fear of standing alone against opinions of others, and being made fun of ourselves.
But, you are not alone! “for I will send you a helper which is the Holy Ghost. And He will bring peace instead of fear; so let not your heart be troubled or afraid.” Always stand up and speak up for what is right. You can be sure that the Holy Spirit will be there with you all the way. Don’t allow fear to make you be silent but obey the Holy Spirit to speak up and move forward.
Q. Have you ever been afraid to let others know that you have accepted Jesus as your Lord?
Q. Do you know that the Holy Spirit can bring out of you the words of the Lord that you have put in ?
Topic: The Love of Christ When we take into account what true love is we see that is more than words or being flattered by someone with beauty or stature. The text says that God commanded His love toward us, while we were yet sinners. The word commanded mean to demonstrate, to show to be true by reasoning or evidence. So while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 1 John 4:9-10, “in this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Q – 1 How can we demonstrate just how much we love Christ?
Q – 2 What does love mean to you?
Topic: “ The Holy Spirit In Those Who Believe “ The day of Pentecost was an important time for the early church. before our Lord Jesus went away He said that He would pray to the father to send us a another comforter. This comforter would not just be near us but He would be in those who accept Him and believe. This is what is called the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit. It is God who dwells with us in a personal way which gives us the power to live a holy life. The disciples were praying together in an upper room in Jerusalem. Suddenly they heard the sound of a great rushing wind and saw what looked like flames of fire upon the head of each of them. And they all had the feeling that something wonderful was happening in their hearts. As Crusaders, we believe in God the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Q - Have you ever asked God to come into your heart and life?
Q-What do you think it would be like if everyone had the Holy Spirit?
Topic: “The Holy Spirit - Real Talk” There is an enemy in the world today whose is determined to 'take you out'. The bible says that the thief/devil come to steal and to kill and to destroy. The devil does not want you to know your true identity in Christ as a child of God. He does not want you to be a person of impact for Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. This is spiritual warfare. As we submit and draw near to God, He will draw near to us, then we can resist the devil and he will flee from us. Be encouraged!!!!! You are of God, little children and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
Q Who is the real enemy?
Q Who wins this war?
Topic: “ The Holy Spirit And The Fruit “ One of the goals of discipleship is helping each other mature in Christ, this is both outward and inward. The Holy Spirit in us is the greatest
miracle of God's power in our lives:
"People will be convinced about Jesus through what they see in our lives.
The greatest miracle of God's power is how the Holy Spirit is changing us - from arrogant to humble; self centered to caring; from blaming to responsible; from extremes to balance; from dogmatic and demanding to reasonable and considerate. When others can see that Jesus makes that much difference, they will know there really is something to Him."
Dr. B. Handt
As Christians we are admonished to be persistent in prayer. It has been said that prayer should be our first response and not our last resort when we face a problem or challenge in life. We are reminded in I Peter 5: 7 to cast all our care upon Him for He cares for you. Now when you have a problem and don't know how to pray, the bible says in Romans 8:26 that the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Let us give thanks for divine prayer support from the Holy Spirit because even when we don't know what to say, He prays for us.
Q Why is prayer important?
Q Who prays for you when you don't know how?
Topic: “ We Need Divine Help” Jesus knew his disciples would need help in order to minister after His ascension or return to heaven. He left instructions for them to wait for the Promise of the Father to empower them to witness and represent Him on earth. As Christians today, we need to understand our own story of repentance for the forgiveness of sin and how the Holy Spirit is given to us to be effective ambassadors for Christ.
Q Before witnessing to others about Jesus, what should you understand?
Q What is another name in scripture for the Holy Spirit?
Topic: “ Spiritual Love “ Love is such a misused and abuse word in many areas of our society today. Spiritual Love is that Divine Love that comes down to us from Heaven. We would not have known it unless God had reveal it to us. If we are true Crusaders in Christ then we have access to this Divine Spiritual Love. Or as some call it Agopa.
Although we have full access to it, I venture to say that This Spiritual Love does not always have full access of us, however.
If we feel ourselves to be lacking in this Spiritual Love we can ask our Heavenly Father who gives to us liberally. (Phil 2:13) For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Yet this Spiritual Love can not come without a price of self denial on our part. A total surrender to God's will.
Q - What will it cost you to love?
Q - Do you believe that God Loves you?
Topic: “ Sitting With Christ “ We always get into trouble when we attempt to live the Christian life on our own steam. Our self efforts are doomed to failure. God's formula for success requires dependency on his might. Only then can we live victoriously and be effective stewards and witnesses.
As Crusaders, we should recognize that we are “ Seated with Christ in Heavenly places”. We are a part of Him and He is a part of us. The Church is a body of believers who are to be witnesses of God’s Kingdom.
We must always depend on Him as our source of power.
